"Harbledown." What a fun word to say. Not sure you'd want it as a NAME, but it has a nice feel to it.

Here we sat, with a lot of other boats, watching the wind blow. Oh, it was a beautiful, almost-CAVU, day. If you were somewhere ashore, away from the water, it would probably even have been warm. In Mound Bay, however, it was about 65 degrees , mid-afternoon, with a cool, no, make that COLD, northwest wind howling in off Blackfish Sound at a steady 15 knots with gusts to about 25. The hook was well set and there was plenty of swinging room so there was nothing to worry about in that regard. But the wind made it too uncomfortable to even venture out on deck, let alone drop the Waugal and go ashore.

But this was all part of a Plan. Comox Coast Guard weather forecast was adamant that the winds were going to blow like hell Saturday and Sunday and become "light" Monday morning. Mound Bay is 1...

We drive north heading for Wilmington NC. , a place we have not been before. Jay has made a reservation at a “luxury” inn. Usually we research a location before descending upon it. As the resident travel agent I was glad to take a break from my duties but as we pull in to the city it is clear things are not as advertised. We check the GPS and confirm we are near to the inn, but the neighborhood looks more like a war zone. The inn’s website sported a horse-drawn carriage, gaslights and romantic ambiance. We pull up and we see what looks like the House on Haunted Hill. There is no parking - on the street if you dare, no carriage, the horse probably ran away. We quickly scan Trip Advisor, something I do in advance especially with these “inns”. Previous guests complain of being locked out at night (not advisable in this neighborhood) cranky innkeepers who don’t allow you to touch anything – I guess you have to sleep levitated above the bed – No wine in the room – you’d need plenty of it to pass out in this place. My girlfriend is coming to rhode island, she currently lives in texas. We wanted to apply for our marriage licence when she comes up. She is going to be living with me for a few months before she leaves to go back to her job. Do I need to apply for the marriage licence in texas? Rhode island law says to apply where the bride resides. If she’s living with me, does that mean that requirement doesn’t apply?
if I went down there, do I have to apply for the marriage course? How much would a town hall wedding cost? We really don’t wanna go ballistic with super formal, and informal is a little difficult cause I got to come back to Rhode Island after, so I can’t live in texas, due to work.

If you’re going to get married in RI, that’s where you’ll get your marriage license.

Perhaps one of my greatest weaknesses as a movie watcher is my unwillingness to watch a movie that I have not seen. Horrible I know, but I always seem to want to watch a movie that I’ve seen 30 times over a movie that I know nothing about. This plays into the fact that I’m afraid of both new experiences and exploring the unknown. I enjoy the comfort of the familiar and to this day will only order the same thing from my favorite Chinese food restaurant. Yes I know I’m boring and predictable, but it’s just so nice and cozy there. Of course one must realize that every movie I am comfortable with at some point started out as a never before seen one. Therein lies my stubbornness.

At first I struggled with the very idea of picking a favorite movie and talking about it. There were so many and picking one was like deciding which child of mine I would want to live, while the rest perished in the bowels of Satan. But then it hit me--The Warriors! Last weekend my cousin Mary Liz visited NYC from Austin. It was her second time in the city but the first trip all by herself. We had so much fun and nearly walked holes into our shoes! We went to the Highline, Governor’s Island, Times Square, Chinatown, SoHo and, of course, Greenpoint. She met Ellis and I got to know my wonderful cousin better before she heads off to college. We made it up to Top of the Rock on a very clear night and took these lovely photos.

Saturday was also our sixth wedding anniversary! We like to celebrate our anniversary with a boat ride every year. This year it was the ferry to Governor’s Island. Here we are pictured along the water in front of Ellis Island.

Ellis is doing some serious teething and hasn’t been her usually happy self. We were so distracted trying to make her feel better, that we complete forgot she turned 10 months on Tuesday. Congrats big baby! You are getting so close to one year! The terminal has since been rebuilt and looks a lot snazzier than when we were last here. I am a first time father traveling with my wife, Elizabeth, and our eight-month old son, Bodhi (pronounced Bodee). It was our first family vacation and our first time to Anna Maria Island (AMI).
